Program Overview
Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, known as the "Resurrection," remains one of the most monumental and impactful works in symphonic history. Under the baton of HK Phil Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski, this concert invites audiences on a profound journey from the solemnity of funeral rites to a triumphant climax of hope and spiritual rebirth. Mahler himself described the symphony as a progression where the human spirit is struck down, only to rise on angel’s wings toward a realm where love transcends judgment. The evening opens with Wagner’s Prelude to Tristan und Isolde, setting the stage for an unforgettable exploration of life, faith, and existence.
