Highlights
Following his triumphant performance of the complete Rachmaninoff piano concertos in Shenzhen in 2025, Van Cliburn International Piano Competition gold medalist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Zhang Haochen returns to join forces with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) in the spring of 2027. This musical event highlights Zhang’s poetic flair and technical mastery as he interprets two of Brahms’ monumental piano concertos, making it a must-attend highlight for classical music aficionados this season.
Program
The concert series is spread over two nights, delving deep into the world of Brahms:
- April 30 (Concert I): Features the Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15, preceded by the Serenade No. 1 in D major, Op. 11. The concert is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes long.
- May 1 (Concert II): Features the epic Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 83, preceded by the Serenade No. 2 in A major, Op. 16. The concert is approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes long.
Conductor Christopher Alstead will lead the HK Phil, offering insightful and vibrant orchestral interpretations for both evenings.
