Under the Surface [Early Bird Offer]

Program Overview

"Under the Surface" is a one-hour contemporary physical theatre work that delves into the connection between the body and the spirit. Choreographer Wen Chuan integrates years of personal exploration of the individual's mental state with the philosophy of 'Change' from the I Ching, transforming these concepts into a dynamic physical language. The piece does not aim to provide definitive philosophical answers; instead, through the dancers' movements—defined by pulling, supporting, imbalance, and spatial reconfiguration—it explores how individuals can reconnect with their inner selves amidst the tension and alienation of daily life.

Within the minimalist Black Box Theatre, a large blue curtain serves as a central element. As it shifts shape with the performers, it constructs a fluid landscape, acting as a boundary, a veil, and a vital part of the spatial environment. Audiences are invited to contemplate the evolving state of the human condition as the dancers' internal energy emerges through continuous transformation.
