"Toki Nashiki" is a Hong Kong pottery studio founded in 2016 by artists Ryan Hui and Wy Lee. This exhibition at Gallery tete showcases the duo's latest exploration of "everyday aesthetics," focusing on the harmonious coexistence of practicality and beauty in ceramic art.
Program
The exhibition presents new experiments by Toki Nashiki. Beyond everyday vessels, the display extends to larger works and furniture, bridging the gap between individual objects and the spaces they inhabit. A key feature of this exhibition is the integration of the traditional "Gambiered Guangdong Silk" (莨染) dyeing technique. The artists repeatedly soak fired ceramics in natural dye and sun-dry them, allowing the vessels to develop rich hues of orange, brown, and deep black while retaining the natural texture of the clay.
