Program Introduction

Set in the 5th year of the Dazhong era of the Tang Dynasty, the story follows a messenger group led by official Gao Jinda, tasked with reaching Chang'an to deliver maps, effectively reconnecting Dunhuang (Shazhou City) with the central government after more than half a century of isolation. The narrative tracks their perilous journey starting from 848 AD, maneuvering through the northern desert, and risking everything to deliver their message. It is more than just a return; it is a profound testament to faith, national pride, and the indomitable spirit of the youth of that era.

The performance lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
