Packy Lai Solo Exhibition: Temple of Desecration

Highlights

Hong Kong artist Packy Lai presents a compelling new solo exhibition titled 'Temple of Desecration,' a philosophical exploration of contemporary inner desires. By reimagining religious forms through an artistic lens, the exhibition invites visitors to pause and reflect on the complexities of modern existence.

Program

The exhibition is titled 'Temple of Desecration,' deriving its name from the concept of removing the modern idols we worship in our daily lives. The artist challenges the audience to consider whether the 'gods' we serve are divine, or if they are merely societal expectations—such as financial success, career prestige, or traditional milestones. Comprising six unique installations, the exhibition appropriates imagery and rituals from Buddhism and Christianity, including scriptures, crosses, and divination, to frame the pursuit of modern desires. Breaking away from traditional calligraphy, the exhibition features immersive elements like an AI-powered 'Buddha machine' and interactive fortune-telling stations, transforming the gallery into a temple of introspection where visitors are encouraged to question their true life goals.
