Overview
'The Chairs' (Les Chaises) is a production directed by Chan Shue-hei, starring veteran actors Fung Luk-tak and Au Ka-man, bringing Eugène Ionesco's 1952 absurdist masterpiece to life. This performance is more than a standard play; it is a profound dialogue on existence and space.
Story Synopsis
Set on a desolate island, the story follows an elderly couple in their nineties. For seventy-five years, their lives have been stuck in a repetitive loop: he tells the same story, she listens to the same story, and they share the same laughter and tears. However, today is different. Preparing for a 'great lecture' that will change the world, they frantically prepare to host a multitude of invisible guests. The room fills with chairs—symbols of emptiness, memories, and messages that cannot be conveyed.
