Overview
Transform those old clothes that have been outgrown into a child's next favorite accessory! As part of the "Learn Play Fabric 2026" community project, CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) is launching a special two-day summer camp. Inspired by Hong Kong fashion designer Yeung Chin’s work with upcycled materials, this workshop invites children to explore the relationship between sustainability and fashion through hands-on creation.
Program
Designed for children aged 7 to 12, no prior sewing experience is required. The camp is split into two immersive days:
- Day 1: Creating Unique Textiles At the CHAT studio, children will learn how to select and process old garments for upcycling. They will gather flowers and leaves to create their own unique fabrics using leaf printing techniques, adding distinct colors and patterns to their material.
- Day 2: Sewing the Drawstring Backpack In the CHAT laboratory, participants will learn to create patterns and operate sewing machines. They will finalize their own stylish drawstring backpacks, personalizing them with colorful cords, knots, and unique decorative details.
