Program Overview
This exhibition marks the first solo showcase in Hong Kong by Japanese potter Tatsuma Segawa, hosted at Gallery tete in PMQ. Born in 1988 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Segawa currently maintains a studio in Senju, Tokyo.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition features a series of distinctive ceramic works that explore the interaction between traditional pottery and non-mainstream materials. Segawa utilizes metals such as aluminum, silver, iron, and copper, applying experimental glazing techniques to create unique textures and appearances. Featured series include:
- Sulfurized Silver Glaze Series: Created by sintering pure silver onto the ceramic surface followed by sulfurization, these pieces possess a unique metallic luster.
- White Glaze Series: Through smoke-firing techniques, natural carbonized patterns are revealed, creating intricate visual depth.
- White Porcelain Series: Inspired by the iconic Ding ware of the Song Dynasty, this latest series showcases pure white porcelain with delicate, wrinkle-like patterns.
Segawa’s work is a testament to the balance between artistic theory and emotion, bridging the gap between earth and metal.
