A Taste of the High Tang — Tang Dynasty Pastry Making

Program Overview

The Tang Dynasty was not only a golden age of poetry and calligraphy but also a time of unprecedented prosperity in Chinese culinary culture. To help the public deeply understand this brilliant era, the Hong Kong Museum of History has commissioned the Chinese Culinary Institute to host the "A Taste of the High Tang — Tang Dynasty Pastry Making" workshop. Focusing on the two major Tang Dynasty staples—"Bing" (flatbreads/cakes) and "Gao" (steamed cakes)—the workshop centers on historical research into the "Sesame Seed Cake" and the "Crystal Dragon and Phoenix Cake." Participants will step into the kitchen to recreate these historic flavors with their own hands.

Important Notes

• Participation is free of charge.
• Open to individuals aged 15 or above.
• The workshop will be conducted in Cantonese.
• Limited spaces available; a computer-generated lottery system will be used if the event is oversubscribed.
• Please wear casual clothing, long trousers, and non-slip footwear. Aprons and chef hats will be provided.
• Successful applicants will be notified via email on July 20.
