Organized by the Hong Kong Museum of History in collaboration with the Chinese Culinary Institute, "A Taste of the Prosperous Tang Dynasty" is an immersive workshop that invites you to journey back in time to explore the vibrant culinary traditions of the Tang era. By creating two iconic Tang Dynasty delicacies—the "Sesame Cake" (Huma Bing) and "Crystal Dragon and Phoenix Cake"—participants will gain hands-on experience in historical pastry making and deepen their understanding of the cultural significance behind these ancient recipes.

About the Program

The Tang Dynasty was a golden age for Chinese food culture, where pastry craftsmanship flourished with exquisite sophistication. This workshop delves into the historical foundations and preparation methods of these traditional foods. Under the guidance of professional chefs, you will learn to recreate these classic flavors, experiencing the artistry and culinary heritage of the Tang Dynasty through every step of the process. This event is a perfect blend of cultural exploration and hands-on cooking, ideal for anyone interested in Chinese history and traditional baking.

Participation Guidelines

• Registration: Online registration is open from 10:00 AM on September 25 to 6:00 PM on September 26, 2026. In case of oversubscription, spots will be allocated via a computer lottery system.
• Eligibility: Open to individuals aged 15 or above. The event is free of charge.
• Gathering Info: Please gather at the Hong Kong Museum of History on the event day. Successful applicants will be notified via email on October 7.
• Dress Code: For safety reasons, please wear casual clothing, long trousers, and non-slip footwear. Aprons and chef hats will be provided by the Chinese Culinary Institute.
• Important Notes: The event will be photographed and filmed for promotional use. In the event of severe weather (such as Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm Warning), please stay tuned for updates from the organizers.
