The Aberdeen Dragon Boat Race 2026 is the most representative annual traditional event in the Southern District, organized by the Aberdeen Traditional Dragon Boat Race Committee. Scheduled for June 19, 2026 (Friday, Tuen Ng Festival), the event will take place at the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter. As part of the 29th Anniversary celebrations of Hong Kong's return, this year's scale is set to be the largest in history, inviting everyone to witness the vibrant festivities.
Highlights
- Centuries of Tradition: With over 100 years of history, Aberdeen is one of the earliest sites for dragon boat racing in Hong Kong. This year, teams from local businesses and international waters will compete on a 330-meter medium dragon boat course.
- Large Dragon Boat Elite Cup: A unique signature of the Aberdeen race. With 60 paddlers per boat, the massive scale and synchronized power of the large dragon boats deliver a spectacular and high-octane racing experience.
- Inaugural 'Costume Competition': For the first time ever, the race features a creative maritime cosplay contest, where paddlers dress in imaginative outfits to compete for the title of 'Costume King,' adding a fun and modern twist to the traditional race.
- Tanka Heritage: Experience authentic Tanka fishing community culture, complete with traditional bamboo scaffolding spectator stands and a lively atmosphere that reflects the city's maritime history.
Program
The competition includes 'Large Dragon' and 'Medium Dragon' categories. The Medium Dragon races are further divided into: Men's Open, Mixed (Men and Women), and Corporate categories. The day also features traditional ceremonies, including the eye-dotting ceremony to invoke blessings for safety and prosperity.

The event takes place at the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter and Aberdeen Promenade. Public transport is highly recommended to reach the venue and soak in the festive excitement.
